For an easier walk, try heading out of town to walk around Stanley Lake, where you’ll find quiet spots to have a picnic, as well has family-friendly beaches from which to swim.
Redfish Lake, the largest lake in the Sawtooth Mountains, is located 5 miles south of Stanley. It is named for the brilliant sockeye salmon that once came to spawn in such massive quantities that the lake appeared red.
